This complete UHN-030 disc drive is designed as a replacement for Sony PlayStation 5 Disc Edition consoles from the CFI-12xx series.

For European consoles, this drive version is particularly associated with the PS5 CFI-1216A. The UHN-030 drive uses the corresponding KEM-497 drive and laser mechanism.

This is an original part removed from a console (Pulled). The complete drive mechanism is supplied rather than just the individual laser pickup or laser sled.

A complete replacement drive is particularly useful when the problem is not limited to the laser itself but also affects the disc loading mechanism, spindle mechanism, gears, sensors or other mechanical components of the original drive.

⚠️ Important: The PS5 optical drive electronics are paired with the mainboard of the individual console. When replacing the drive, the original paired drive electronics from your own console must therefore be retained and transferred. Electronics from another PS5 cannot simply be used as a fully interchangeable replacement.

UHN-030 / KEM-497 Drive Generation

The UHN-030 drive belongs to the CFI-12xx generation of PlayStation 5 Disc Edition consoles.

For the European CFI-1216A, the UHN-030 is used with the corresponding KEM-497 drive / laser generation.

The main distinction between the original PS5 drive generations is:

CFI-10xx → UHN-010
CFI-11xx → UHN-020
CFI-12xx → UHN-030

The UHN-030 version should therefore not be used as a replacement for UHN-010 or UHN-020 drives.

⚠️ Original Drive Electronics Must Be Retained

The PlayStation 5 optical drive electronics are paired with the mainboard of the individual console.

This means that a complete donor drive cannot simply be installed together with the donor drive electronics.

When replacing the mechanical drive assembly, the original paired electronics from your own PS5 must be retained and transferred to the replacement drive.

In simplified terms:

Defective UHN-030 drive → transfer original paired electronics → install replacement drive

This allows the mechanical drive assembly to be replaced while retaining the electronics associated with the console.
